Description

The girl of the golden west is Katie Attwood whose life is divided into two parts -- the childhood she spent in Hollywood vs. her transplant to New York where she had a small breakdown, wrote a successful book, and now is back in Hollywood considering adapting it for the screen. Actually she's much more anxious to see Nick Ballard (who figured in that book -- she adored him as a child) and now, in his turtleneck and Porsche, he's on the other side of 50, a bad marriage and a faltering career. So back and forth, Hollywood-New York, and back again and Katie marries him and Miss Whedon has just enough of a surprise for you to justify going on reading this. Katie's the kind who gives Bloomingdale's an intimacy we never really felt by referring to it as Bloomy's, and flutters her real eyelashes when she throws out ""I wonder what we're really like?"" for size. The word fetching applies and that again is a question of definition or inclination.
